Sagat’s Big Hands

Yup. BIG HANDS. But don’t let them put you off this Sagat statue by SOTA. It’s not his fault, is it? Indeed, he’s become quite sensitive about it, so if you don’t mind, quit your staring. Due in September, it’s - as you can see - a highly detailed representation of Thailand’s favourite one-eyed son, stands 12" and will cost you $120.

SF film writer explains Chun-Li focus

Street Fighter movie writer Justin Marks has said he picked Chun-Li as the focus because films are about unexpected heroes, and not so he could have a "blatantly sexualised female lead".

He acknowledges that Ryu and Ken are "the muscle" of the familiar series, but says Chun-Li is the "heart and soul" because her father was taken from her; she is the little girl that everyone wrote off.

The part of Chun-Li will be played by lovely Smallville [and Edgemont - Dep Ed] star Kristin Kreuk, but Justin Marks sees her in more of a Ripley from Aliens role than any-of-them from Dead or Alive.

Arcade Perfect - Japan’s arcade games don’t export well - but their ideas and systems could well do

Rob Fahey of GamesIndustry.Biz writes: "One of the things which always strikes games industry types when they visit Japan is the rude health of the arcade business in the country. Although it goes through ups and downs like most businesses, and there are presently concerns of a decline in the sector, it’s undeniable that by contrast with their Western counterparts, Japan’s arcades are a major success story.

Travelling around Japan in the last couple of weeks, I’ve been struck again by this contrast. Perhaps the most important aspect is not even the fact that Japanese arcades are plentiful and bustling with customers - it’s the fact that they represent the fruits of continual investment and evolution.

They have moved with the times and created whole new categories of game to draw in consumers - while at the same time, western arcades have for the most part declined into a depressing landscape of outdated machines and gambling games, interspersed with occasional recent Japanese imports which simply feel out of place."

Build Your Own MAME Machine

Since the creation of MAME, fans of classic arcade games can revisit their favorites without going on a mad cross-country tour for surviving old-school arcades. Sure, you can just run emulators and ROMs on your PC, but there’s no comparison to standing in front of a real-deal cabinet. Wouldn’t you rather have your own arcade machine that can play over 3,500 of your favorite arcade hits? Think of the accolades you’ll receive from friends as they wander through menu after menu of golden oldies like Scramble and Zaxxon. But how do you put together your own coin-op classic machine? Let IGN point you in the right directions.

SF IV: New Fighter Revealed & El Fuerte Video

Japan continues to get some major Street Fighter IV loving as evidence by the new Street Fighter IV Arcade testing. This latest build of the game has El Fuerte as a playable character and is said to have Vega and M.Bison as playable fighters as well. Can’t confirm Vega and M. Bison returning for sure until Destructoid see some pictures or video, but they do have this video of El Fuerte battling it out with Zangief.

This latest testing of the game has also revealed a new fighter as evidence by the first video. His name is Rufus and he’s fatter than E. Honda. Even though he’s obese like crazy, he seems to move pretty fast still.
